USM masih mengekalkan dasar dan prosedur sedia ada berkaitan MUET untuk sidang akademik 2021/2022.

Berikut adalah makulmat untuk pengekalan dasar tesebut:-

Free English Conversation Workshop

Speak better English in 30 minutes a week

Spoken English is demanded in the job market. You can start preparing now with Come Chat with Me (CCWM), a free English conversation workshop held at USM’s Pusat Pengajian Bahasa, Literasi dan Terjemahan (PPBLT).

˜ CCWM is open to any USM enrolled student and runs from 10 September to 19 December 2019.

˜ Taught by a native-English speaker, CCWM offers a mentoring environment where students receive individualized attention—with no grades, exams or points to worry about.

˜ Students attend one (1) 30-minute session weekly. Enrollment is free and accepted on an ongoing basis, subject to space available. You do not need to be currently enrolled in any USM English course to attend CCWM.

Chat session times are:

Monday–Thursday

0930, 1015, 1100, 1145

1400, 1445

To register, please email Language Instructor Lance Ong at ongla@usm.my with your:

1. Full name

2. MUET or IELTS Band number

3. Your final year and final semester before graduating

4. Matric number, international office (IO) number, Intensive English Program (IEP) number, or other form of proof that you're currently enrolled at USM

5. IC number

6. Important: Please request 3 time slots in order of your first, second, and third preference. Your Chat time will be one of these times for the entire semester. Example: if you specify 1) Tue 0930, 2) Wed 1015, 3) Thu 1400 and are assigned to Wed 1015, you will be expected to attend Chat on Wednesdays at 1015 each week for the entire semester. To the extent possible, we will endeavour to accommodate your first preference, but as enrolment increases into the semester, we cannot unconditionally guarantee first preferences.

Is it that difficult to speak in English ? ..Try these tips

During my school days,I noticed that  a few of my Chinese classmates,spoke with a good command of Bahasa Melayu.

I knew, Chinese and English were used frequently in their daily life.

Malay neighbours ? .I guessed, there was not even a single Malay family in the neighbourhood.

True enough,   "Bahasa Baku" was their choice. 

Approaching one of them,I asked  Lian, why the Bahasa Baku ?

He said " I know Malay only in school,you and the others speak Malay with difference slang"

He used to read a lots of Malay books, One thing , for sure , Lian would not immediately responded when  I ask him , " Lian , lepas baca, bagi saya terus buku tu".

He was a library prefect, borrowing from the library is just a matter of handing over my library card to him,I did not have to make my way to the library.

It took  a few seconds,for him to answer .With a smile ,he uttered the words " sebenarnya, saya sememangnya ada keinginan untuk memberikan buku ini kepada kamu"

I learned the secret from those guys.

In order to speak in English ;-

1. You must have a good vocabulary
2. Before you open your mouth, in your mind, start to process , how to arrange for the sentences
3. Use gesture such smiling, to help you overcome the tendency to response immediately.

You would not be able to do No 2 if your vocabulary is limited, Reading helps you a lot.

No 3 give you some ample time on what you want to say.Otherwise you will start  to tremble and once,panic strike you, everything seem blank !

 Practise the above 3 tips,at least you could have a smooth conversation.

Alhamdull lillah,Saya selesai menduduki peperiksaan MUET sepenuhnya pada 04/11/17 yang lalu.

800/3 -Reading ( 40% )

Secara keseluruhannya , tiada masalah untuk menjawabnya

800/4-Writing ( 30% )

DUA Soalan yang perlu dijawab( Tiada Pilihan )
Diperuntukkan 40  minit untuk soalan pertama dan 50 minit untuk soalan kedua

"Terbabas" juga ,sebab saya mengambil masa 45 untuk siapkan Soalan 1 .Untuk Soalan 2 , saya pasti markah dipotong kerana kurang sedikit daripada 350 patah perkataan yang dikehendaki

800/1-Listening ( 15 % )

Audio yg diperdengarkan sangat jelas.
Kertas ini dapat membantu pencapaian band keseluruhannya

Anggaran Pencapaian MUET

Listening- 13%
Speaking - 8%
Reading - 38%
Writing- 20%
Total = 79%

Band = ( 79 ) / ( 100 ) ( 300 )
          = 237
==> Band 5

Peperiksaan "MUET PAPER 2-SPEAKING "

Alhamdullillah, saya telah selesai menduduki peperiksaan ''MUET PAPER 2 -SPEAKING PAPER" pada 05 / 10 / 2017 yang lalu

Mengikut slip menduduki peperiksaan , pelajar perlu berada 15 minit sebelum peperiksaan bermula.
Setibanya saya di pusat peperiksaan (sebuah bangunan perpustakaan, di Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara) ,pada pukul 7.15 pagi telah terdapat ramai pelajar sedang menunggu di luar pintu .Lebih kurang 7.30 pagi  , salah seorang kakitangan mempelawa kami masuk .Kasut masing masing ditinggalkan di rak kasut yang telah disediakan.

Ada 2 buah bilik makmal komputer, tertampal dengan kod di kedua dua pintu berkenaan. Kami masuk bilik itu mengikut kod yang sepadan dengan yang dicetak pada slip menduduki peperiksaan.

Seorang pegawai bertugas juga masuk bersama.Bilik makmal komputer ini adalah bilik menunggu sementara sampai giliran untuk peperiksaan "speaking"

Lebih kurang pukul 8.00 pagi, kelihatan 4 orang pegawai perempuan masuk serta disambut oleh kakitangan dan pegawai bertugas .Saya pasti mereka inilah pegawai penilai peperiksaan ( PPP ).

Lebih kurang 20 minit kemudian, 2 orang PPP masuk ke bilik .
Salah seorang bertanya samada kami semua pernah menigkuti kelas MUET
Hampir kesemua pelajar mengatakan tidak.

Beliau bertanya lagi samada kami tahu perihal peperiksaan ini dijalankan.Apabila kami mengiyakannya , beliau tersenyum dan akan memberi taklimat ringkas sebagai peringatan .

" This test consist of 2 tasks.Task A is an individual presentation &  Task B is a group interaction.Task A is carried out first followed by Task B.
You are given 1 minute to read the instruction and tasks given.

For Task A- individual presentation,you are given 2 minutes to prepare a response and also 2 minutes to present views

For Task B - group interaction, you are given 2 minutes to prepare for the discussion and 10 minutes to present your view.
All candidates discuss to come to a group conclusion if possible otherwise based on the best suggestion to the situation.
You can change your view in Task A if you agree with any views from task B
.
Each of you  will be given a pencil and a paper to jot down your views ,

Any questions ? Ask anything to clarify before you are  in the room'

...Lebih kurang begitulah kandungan

Menjawab soalan salah seorang daripada pelajar, seorang lagi PPP berkata
 " dont worry, if you don't know the answer for the task or view , try to give examples"

Para pelajar dibahagikan dalam kumpulan yang terdiri daripada 4 orang

Setelah menandatangani kehadiran , semua telefon bimbit ditanda dan diletakkan dalam satu beg , bagi setiap kumpulan. Ini untuk memudahkan mengambilnya kelak setelah selesai menduduki peperiksaan.

Saya berada dalam kumpulan giliran ketiga.

Saya terasa sejuk kerana alat pendawa dingin yang dipasang tidak boleh dikawal tahap kesejukannya.Tambahan pula, saya  tidak memakai baju berlengan panjang.

Ketika peperiksaan kumpulan kedua sedang berjalan, saya meminta kebenaran untuk ke tandas.

Pegawai yang sama sama berada di bilik menunggu,lantas bangun lalu menuju ke arah bilik peperiksaan tersebut.
Salah seorang PPP keluar , kemudian saya bersama seorang lagi rakan yang dalam kumpulan sama ke tandas sambil diiringi oleh pegawai tadi.

Tandas memanglah bersih, disediakan selipar .Kami membuka stokin ..
Selesai...
sambil menyarung stokin masing masing, kami berbual bual perlahan, tak teringat pula yang pegawai tadi masih menunggu di luar pintu tandas.

Lebih kurang beberapa minit kemudian , ada pelajar lelaki lain ingin ke tandas.

Pegawai tadi , kemudian ke bilik peperiksaan, kemudian beliau keluar seorang .
' Adik, kena tunggu dulu"

Beberapa minit kemudian, PPP itu masuk lalu bersuara
" anybody else , every time someone is going to the wash room, i have to stop the test for a while "

DALAM BILIK PEPERIKSAAN 

"Task A"
Saya adalah "Candidate B" .Ini bermakna  saya adalah orang kedua yang akan bercakap mengenai tajuk diberi

 " What are the good qualities of a good farther ? 
Saya kena beri pandangan mengenai 

"A good farther is generous to his children"

Saya lihat "Candidate A, C & D " laju je merangka jawapan untuk task masing masing.

Kertas utk rangka jawapan saya masih tak ditulis apa apa.Tak tahu apa nak dibentangkan. fikiran terasa kosong sekejap.

Bila Candidate A mula memberi pandangan , saya tak berapa dengar sangat .saya masih terfikir apa nak cakap kejap lagi.

"Time's up"
Candidate B , you may proceed.

Saya senyum pada pegawai pemeriksa tu. Dia balas senyum sambil mengangguk kepala.

Saya memulakan dengan memberi salam dan "greeting" pada semua .Percakapan saya merangkak rangkak kerana langsung tiada idea , saya lebih bermain dengan kata kata tanpa ada fakta untuk mengukuh hujah. Dalam pada tercari tercari ,terdengar perkataan " time's up "

Melihat saya agak terpinga pinga , pemeriksa itu berkata " finish your last sentence with a conclusion"

Task B

" In a group Interaction : What is the main quality  of a good farther  ?
 Given : A good farther is firm to his children
            A good farther is generous  to his children
            A good farther makes jokes to  his children
            ( Yang satu lagi, saya dah tak ingat )

Saya dapat menyampaikan dengan agak baik ( dibandingkan dengan Task A tadi )

" Candidate A, i am totally, disagree with you. In my opinion....bla bla "

Ini kerana hujahnya agar longgar.Tambahan pula " Candidate C &  D "  menyokong serta memperkukuhkan pandangan mereka.Masa 10 minit yang diberi berlalu begitu pantas dengan
" Candidate A " akhirnya membuat kesimpulan yang baik.


Saya berdoa semoga tidak lah teruk sangat keputusan untuk bahagian ini .Begitu juga kepada ahli dalam kumpulan saya serta semua pelajar yang menduduki peperiksaan hari itu, semoga kalian beroleh keputusan yang cemerlang.InsyaAllah
